  Employment Services

This program provides vocational training and employment opportunities for developmentally disabled adults in a variety of work settings.

Community Employment

FRA works with local businesses to develop competitive jobs in the community. Persons with developmental disabilities are currently holding jobs in such fields as cosmetology, food service and records destruction. FRA provides job coaches to work with individuals on the job until the person in training has fully mastered all of the job responsibilities.

FRA-Owned Businesses

FRA operates a janitorial service, a pick-up service for used clothing, housewares and furniture, a mailing/packaging business, a shelf stocking service, and a potato-wrapping operation for restaurants. These small businesses offer employment opportunities in more structured and supervised environments for individuals who require a higher level of support to successfully achieve their employment goals.

Provide On-The-Job Training and Follow-up Services

Designed to increase job success for individuals with disabilities, once an employer hires an individual through FRA's Employment Services program, a professional job coach provides continuous on-site training, helping the employee meet co-workers and become familiar with the routine of the work place.

The job coach and the employee work as a team on a daily basis so no productive time is lost during training. When the employee has fully mastered the job, the coach can begin a gradual fading-out process. The employer, job coach, and the employee decide together when that fading out should take place.

Give Employers the Financial Advantage of Training Support

The job coach is responsible for all aspects of an employee's training and orientation so that an employer's participation in the program requires no extra work or cost beyond the usual hiring process.

Help employers by identifying and meeting personnel needs that might not be met through the usual recruitment channels.

FRA's Supported Employment program offers a reliable alternative approach to meeting employment needs creatively and economically. For example, our services can offer stable employment in what are typically high-turnover positions.

Supported Employment Services are used by many local businesses:

  • banks
  • restaurants
  • hair salons
  • government
  • food services
  • janitorial services
