Family Services
Family Services offers a variety of programs designed around the needs of each child with a developmental disability and his or her family.
- In-home training program offers supports to help a family build on their child's skills and access community resources.
- Specialized foster care and shared care provides full- and part-time living arrangements for children and adults with disabilities.
- STAR program provides short term assistance including parenting skills education, crisis response, counseling, and referrals.
- Supported Parenting is a year-long course designed to strengthen and enhance parenting skills.
- Sib Shop offers a support group for children who have a brother or sister who experiences a disability. Sib shop affords an opportunity for siblings to share experiences and to enjoy activities with their peers.
- Respite Care program offers short-term care for children and adults who have special needs because of a disability.
- Respite offers families valuable "time off" from the daily demands of care.
- Care can be provided in the family's home or in FRA's respite care apartment, and is available 24 hours a day on a limited basis.
The family services program helps families find funding to purchase or provide a variety of services for their child with a developmental disability.
- TEFRA provides Medicaid coverage to children with a developmental delay and a chronic medical condition.
- Home and community based waivers offer individualized funding that allows families to purchase an array of services.
- Core services provide funding, up to $3,000 annually, for individuals on the waitlist but not receiving any other DD services.
Complete the Developmental Disability Eligibility Form. In order for an individual to receive any services from the Division of Senior and Disabilities Services (DSDS), he or she must be determined to experience a developmental disability. FRA can help you complete this form.
Assistance can be provided for a number of activities, including:
- Personal hygiene and grooming
- Taking medication
- Eating and meal preparation
- Prescribed physical activities & vital signs
All services must be determined medically necessary and prescribed by a registered nurse. |
